Senators greet Melanie's March ahead of summit

I just got back from Washington, where our contingent of 11 from St. Louis met up with at least a half-dozen more from our city (including Melanie's commonlaw spouse, Steve), eight who marched all the 135 miles from Philadelphia to D.C., and hundreds more from across the country to push for health care reform. Melanie's March, organized by Health Care for Ameica Now, SEIU and literally scores of other groups, was met on Capitol Hill by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and senators Chris Dodd, Arlen Specter, Tom Harkin, Sherrod Brown and Bob Casey (hope I left no senators out). They pledged to pass health care reform, though none specifically mentioned a public option.

Nonetheless, we delivered the message and were heard. I call the march a complete success. I'm sending video to TPM and will post more later. Right now, I'm in pain and tired. I went on the 1700-mile round trip with a fractured tail bone, having fallen down a flight of stairs last Friday. My friends did all the driving.

    Thank you, Melanie!
