All this shows is that Silver hasn't been following this story. I've read countless articles discussing the divide between low density red rural areas and high density blue urban areas. A "natural" divide exists that gerrymandering takes advantage of.

Don's having trouble with this Constutution and Democracy thing right now - which could be his most impeachable offense to date, since his job doesn't exactly give him the right to blow up the Constitution when he's unhappy with it - quite the opposite - his main job description is supporting the Constitution. The big dumb thieving hairball.
