Tens of thousands of demonstrators took to Hong Kong streets on Sunday and marched to the U.S. Consulate, urging American lawmakers to pass legislation in support of the territory’s democratic aspirations. The police-sanctioned rally and march through the city center had some of the trappings of a Fourth of July parade, as protesters waved American flags and played the “Star-Spangled Banner.” Demonstrators carried red, white and blue signs calling for President Trump to “Liberate Hong Kong” and chanted: “Free Hong Kong, pass the act!”

This is so stupid, as if Trump cares about freedom and liberty. If he could get a good trade deal with China with a part being keeping his mouth shut about whatever China did in Hong Kong he'd say he doesn't really care if China kills them all.

I've noticed in my news travels that there's a subset of the protestors that are doing American freedom memes. But it hasn't been clear how large a subset they are, so I decided against reposting such stories. The question in my mind was whether it was more a naive aping of Tianmenen protest memes than a endearment with Trump's America, how much history those protestors understood...
