...Tuesday’s clash involving protesters and security guards for visiting Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan prompted outrage by local and U.S. officials who accused the guards of using violence to quell what had been a peaceful demonstration in Northwest Washington....

Well...Trump encourages violence against protesters too....so why not?

Wow. Really problematic because of the jurisdiction thing. Diplomats can be arrogant about minor law breaking, but this is a new height, suggests a kind of Milgram experiment thing going on where the total control thing becomes quickly contagious. It's like: hey, a reminder that once you step outside that property, you're not in Turkey anymore. Royce and McCain deserve praise for speaking up about this. It really is dissing all of us. Those guards are supposed to work with local law enforcement and if they don't like the situation regarding that, then just protest to the national authorities and if they don't like the answer they can go home.

I think that a trip home is the only peril they face (tho, actually, I've been to Istanbul and prolly the embassy guards here would rather do a 30 day jolt at Rikers if they could just stay in NYC...)

hah. But this event was in D.C., so think again. Anyhoo I've got friends & acquaintances who raved about Istanbul, go figure,. but that was before all this latest crap.

House votes to condemn Turkish security violence against protesters

P.S. Well their vote takes care of removing any possible diplomatic immunity questions, those guys in theory could be prosecuted. But DOH there's no federal prosecutors to open new cases! Main message: there's a window of opportunity to be bad hombres and rough up Americans?
