Why Trump's Inauguration Will Be Different Than Any Before

Calling Donald Trump’s rise to the highest seat in the United States eventful is an understatement. In about one week, Trump will take the stage and officially be inaugurated as the 45h President of the United States. However, Trump's inauguration raises plenty of questions. Here is what you can expect to see in Washington D.C. on January 20th.

    No, Thank You

Barack Obama’s inauguration was a star studded line up of golden voices and compelling performers. His second inauguration was a confirmation of how much star power the Obamas could pull. Even President Obama’s 55th birthday party this past August was a huge star-studded event. 2017 is bound to see some pretty exciting performances. Trump’s less than flattering rhetoric on select ethnicities has left a bitter taste in the mouths of many people, especially Hollywood. When he is not taking to Twitter to call people overrated, you can bet the President-elect is typing up a tweet that will spark a comment section war.

In that light, musicians are rumored to be turning down invites to bring down the House on Inauguration Day. So far, the supposed lineup of performers includes little known Jackie Evancho, a runner-up in the popular America’s Got Talent competition, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, the Rockettes, and Talladega Marching Tornadoes. Some artists have agreed to perform, but the stipulations for their Ben Franklin to be on that performer's’ list may not make Trump happy. Moby went right for the jugular when he responded to the invite by saying he would only perform if Trump released his taxes. Rebecca Ferguson also did not hold back saying she would only perform if she were allowed to do a rendition of Billie Holiday’s ‘Strange Fruit.'

    Numbers

Perhaps it is the lack of a more convincing artist ensemble, or maybe it is how divisive Trump has been over the last few months. Approximately 800,000 may seem like an impressive number. However, when your predecessor’s inauguration managed to rack up 1.8 million attendees, it begins to look a little worrying. Trump's inauguration might just be the one with the most number of negative firsts. Originally, Jimmy Carter was the only former President to RSVP the event. President George W. Bush, Laura Bush, President Bill Clinton, and Hillary Clinton have come around and now also have responded yes to the event.  It may be due to safety concerns. Nonetheless, you can expect an eyeful on the big day. This news has elicited different reactions and defenses from supporters of Trump. Some of them say that the drop in numbers is normal and to be expected.

    Charles Brotman, You're Fired

Trump just can't seem to stop making headlines. For those unfamiliar with the name Brotman, he has been the inauguration announcer for six decades. He had seen power switch hands since 1957 when Eisenhower was taking the reign. However, Brotman was served with the unfortunate news that he had been sidelined for Steve Ray days before the big event. Therefore, we are sure to see a different face after 60 years.Trump has received mixed reactions from the public. Despite all that, it is not all lost. Brotman will now take his seat as the Announcer Chairman Emeritus.

I'm really surprised that Bill and Hillary are going.  She should not have to sit through the farcical inauguration of His Fraudulency.

She'll be bringing Melania's past lovers and yelling out "wrong" every minute or so. Should be funn

My son is going with the plan of turning his back on the "event,". However he is passionate like his mother, and I am worried that his deep-throated "BOOOOOOOO!!!!!" may get him arrested (or injured.

I want to not watch it, but I don't want to miss any major snafus or embarrassment.  I'm still hoping that something happens and Hillary will be rushed up to the bible and get inaugurated LOL. LOL!

One thing donald trump doesn't realize is that you can't buy class.

    Edit to add:  I do plan to wear all black that day, including my new black T-Shirt that says;

                          RESIST

My gray t-shirt says "Not my President"

I have t-shirts that say "Don't Blame Me, I voted for Hillary"

"Don't Blame me, I voted for Clinton" shirts are on sale at the Baltimore-Washington International airport.

BTW Brotman will do the color commentary on the inauguration for channel 4 in D.C.

The nice thing about internet times is that if some major snafu or embarrassment happens, there will be gifs and videos of it in short order. You can let others prewatch it for you!

True!  I have a gift certificate for an hour's "floating" in hypersalinated water.  That might be a good alternative, although I would have to take off my T-Shirt!

Actually, I think meditation would be a good use of that hour for all of us.  May I recommend Headspace.com?  I have no interest in it unlike dt and LLBean.  Too bad for them that they got muddied by the genetic winner of the family name.

Sounds like an interesting space to ... well ... use your head.  I'd never considered meditation as something that could be improved upon with technology, an app and some headphones, but I'm not the coolest kid in the bunch.  I didn't even know about floating in hypersalinated water!  Is swimming/floating in salty bodies of water (I recommend ones with big waves) comparable?  ;-)

And Jason - thanks for this.  Welcome to a sometimes crazy but always interesting spot named Dagblog!

I will get back to you about this.  I would not have chosen the "float" treatment.  I know I need to bring some ear-plugs so the water won't drift into my ears and take my mind off of everything except my EARS!!!!!  The reason I like headspace is because it is "guided meditation" and I never could do it by myself.  I would constantly be saying to myself, "OK Relax!  STOP THINKING!  My foot itches!  STOP THINKING!  Relax!  Push thoughts away!  NO!  You just can't do this!"

With headspace, the guy calmly helps you through it.  Probably not for everyone, but I like it.

But I will report back on the floating thingy.

Look into John Lilly of dolphin research fame, Gregory Bateson's "An Epistemology of Mind", etc

Head of D.C. National Guard to be removed from post in middle of inauguration

The U.S. Army general who heads the D.C. National Guard and is an integral part of overseeing the inauguration said Friday he has been ordered removed from command effective Jan. 20, 12:01 p.m., just as Donald Trump is sworn in as president.

Maj. Gen. Errol R. Schwartz’s departure will come in the midst of the presidential ceremony, classified as a national special security event — and while thousands of his troops are deployed to help protect the nation’s capital ....

Gen. Schwartz was appointed by GW Bush and is black.

Who will be put in charge of the DC National Guard?

There are protests planned....I am sure Trump and his supporters would love to see people beat up on the streets, he encouraged violence at his rallies.....and then there is the womens march the next day....

The person who is second in command will move into leadership until the President can appoint a new AG. I would not worry about the National Guard not being able to preform their duty and carry out their mission.

Maj. Gen. was 65 years old and was serving at the pleasure of the President.  65 is a little long in the tooth for the military.  I am sure he knew he would have to retire with the President.

    Nice Jason... and welcome...

Trump's inauguration might just be the one with the most number of negative firsts.

You mean like, President GoldenShowers' current negative rating of 51 percent?

Now that's one hell of mandate.
