Four of the officers with Russia’ GRU military intelligence agency also were charged with targeting organizations probing Russia’s alleged use of chemical weapons, including the poisoning of a former Russian spy in Britain. Three were indicted in July for allegedly conspiring to interfere in the 2016 presidential election.
The indictment further exposes Moscow’s ongoing, widespread campaign to discredit Western democracy and international institutions through disinformation and other measures. The aim, officials said, is to muddy or alter perceptions of the truth [....]

Yeah I saw that but then I read how the mission he was on sounded suspiciously pro-Putin and then I thought: why throw away a whole helicopter to assassinate someone? So I didn't post it. Whatever the case, your last sentence certainly true!

For the Trump administration/campaign, shutting down the Veselnitskaya investigation would be a win. Likely for the Russians as well.

Skimming the piece makes it clear it is definitely one to print out for a careful read!
Edit to add that this really jumped out at me, I did not know this was still going on for people from Russia, and makes it clear past news stories about same may not be what we think they are:
