SEOUL — A U.S. Navy strike group led by the USS Carl Vinson aircraft carrier was making its way towards the Korean peninsula Sunday “to maintain readiness” as Kim Jong Un’s regime in North Korea prepared to mark key anniversaries this coming week.
North Korea is expected to hold a huge military parade on April 15 to celebrate the 105th birthday of its founding president, Kim Il Sung, and to mark the 85th anniversary of the creation of the Korean People's Army on April 25 with similar fanfare.
Analysts expect the recent barrage of missiles to continue, and activities around its known nuclear test site have raised concerns North Korea may be preparing for a sixth nuclear test. [.....]

Trump is getting his information about East Asian affairs from the leader of America’s largest rival in the region.
This is an important point I've been thinking about. This is the first time I've seen anyone in the news media bring it up, though there's no discussion of it in the article. Everybody is focused on the "Nobody knew it was this complicated" meme when in fact everyone moderately knowledgeable knew. The other point is that whatever Xi told Trump to get him up to speed in the 10 minute history lesson was likely a very propagandized version. And Trump bought it. A briefing paper by experts from the state department on Chinese/North Korean history as it pertains to the current nuclear problem would likely have been very different.

NYT just posted an article, with the rundown on the missiles on view at today's parade, with analysts quotes:

I still think that Kim is more intelligent than Trump. That is pretty scary.
PS: Just got the news that N Korea launched a missile that blew up. I'm sure trump will rub that in, because how could he not?

Your P.S. made me go to and find a suprise at the new NYTimes article reporting the failed launch when I might not have. Trump probably will not be rubbing it in because we might have had something to do with it failing and that would be due to Obama's program:
Even if this failure wasn't our fault, it wouldn't be wise to make it sound like it wasn't. Neither is Trump wont to give Obama credit even if Mattis advised that it would be smart to suggest we had something to do with it, which he clearly thinks shouldn't be done. Cheshire cat is the way they've decided to go.

Very interesting, AA. Thanks for that link. If trump manages to keep his pie-hole (and tweety fingers) silent on this I will be surprised. I hope he does, though.

the only thing the piehole is saying so far this morning, @8:18am, appears that Xi is his new best boyfriend:

U.S. Says Consensus Reached With China To Stop North Korea Missile Tests
@ Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, April 16
Refers to McMaster on ABC's "This Week" this morning on North Korea, you can see that @ either this video or the McMaster section of this transcript. I watched the video. Nothing's going to happen right away. They are going to work with China on it. They also intend to act in concert with our allies. Including all of NATO. McMaster sounded so very positive about China it was almost shocking.
In other related news, Pence spoke to American and South Korean military today in South Korea.

P.S.: A reminder from April 5:
Bannon removed from security council as McMaster asserts control
and then from April 12
Trump just threw Steve Bannon under the bus and backed it up over him
