Turki Aldakhil, general manager of the Saudi-owned Al-Arabiya news channel, warned that if the US imposed sanctions on Riyadh "it will stab its own economy to death," cause oil prices to reach as high as $200 a barrel, lead Riyadh to permit a Russian military base in the city of Tabuk..."There are simple procedures, that are part of over 30 others, that Riyadh will implement directly, without flinching an eye if sanctions are imposed," he said. "If US sanctions are imposed on Saudi Arabia, we will be facing an economic disaster that would rock the entire world," he added.

Ah but their greatest talent of all is duplicity:
But that is virtually their only talent? And even then, they can never get that making purring noises does not comfort investors nor other governments
I think their approach as if all others are stupid Trump-like fools is a delusion created by being royals, which by their very nature have only yes men surrounding them, with a population mostly brainwashed by Wahhabism combined with a welfare state, to boot.
By contrast, the Iranian mullahs and leaders do not have this issue at all, they study "the other" and learn how to communicate and manipulate. I suspect for that reason, they will always run circles around the Saudi royal family. Ain't figured out the Turks yet, but then: who has?

Excellent analysis.
The threat to have a Russian base was choice bs.
It might have BeBest to let Saddam overrun the place in 1991. At least he protected all religions, with a large Christian and Yadzi community. He also didn't have 50 greedy princes, cavorting across Europe and Lebanon in brothels and casinos, or funding radicals and exporting them and terror to Pakistan etc etc
