Book of the Month

Romney's use of the word 'fire' for, supposedly, the excuse he gave later, canceling an insurance contract shows a mindset of a privileged patrician who loves the power.  No one 'fires' an insurance company, you fire people. Rick Perry for once hit the nail on the head yesterday when he said, rough paraphrase "Yeah, I believe Romney was concerned about pink slips, he was afraid he would run out of them", referring to Romney's claim he was often afraid of losing his corporate raiding job at 'Bane' Capital.

If I wanted to express what Romney apparently wanted to express, I would have said, "I like being able to change companies when I'm not getting treated well." It's a reasonable position.

But I don't think of that as "firing people." I think of it as taking my business elsewhere. Because I view myself as a consumer, not as Donald Trump.

Exactly.  The linguistic frame "firing" gives the whole thing away.

He really is an over priveleged twerp.

"Yeah, I believe Romney was concerned about pink slips, he was afraid he would run out of them"

I believe that fairness dictates that we pause a  moment and acknowledge an actual instance of what appears to have been unscripted wit from Rick Perry.

Carry on.
