Thomas Mann and Norman Ornstein, WashPost op-ed April 27. Ornstein, who has long studied Congress, works for the conservative, partisan GOP "think tank" American Enterprise Institute. Mann is at the Brookings Institution.
What's unusual is not the content, which has been amply documented elsewhere for those still quaintly partial to facts, but that two D.C. Beltway staples, two folks who have been around a long time now, seen a lot, know a lot of people in this town, and are centrist in their outlook, actually wrote this and had it published for Inside the Beltway consumption (it's adapted from their new book, plugged at the end of the piece).
Meaningless Inside-the-Beltway hue and cry to follow.

Precious Blood of the Sweet Baby Jesus, Ornstein is an American Enterprise Institute hack, and even his well lubed gorge revolts!

O/T, DoubleA, you will probably already have discerned the mashup of Jimmy Swaggart and Bishop Sheen in my original (to the best of my knowledge) pirate's oath previously set forth.

Huh? I am usually able to follow your bouncing ball, but maybe not discerning enough this time. Are you referring to your frequent use of "precious blood of sweet baby Jesus"? I do admit a fondness for seeing the phrase, because, rather than Swaggert/Sheen, it reminds me of tough old nuns or devout spinsters with hearts of gold, the kind that would have been butch lesbians if born in another era. Use of the phrase is an attempt to get across swearing vigorously without sinning. There was a sort of equivalent in the Polish-Catholic-English language that I recall: Jezu kochany!
