Alvin Greene & the S.C. Democratic Party – Are you High?

Near the end of Alvin Greene’s interview yesterday with KABC-790 (Los Angeles) crew Frosty, Heidi and Frank, Greene was asked the only question that seemed to matter.

“Are you completely high right now?” asked Frank.

    “Yes,” said Greene.

That Greene didn’t really hear the question so his answer was very likely out of context is of no matter. No, what matters is that with Greene as the elected South Carolina Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate, the U.S. may have crossed the rubicon when it comes to democracy. After listening to Greene for a minute, it suddenly becomes quite difficult to make a case for democratic system.

When I first learned about Greene, I figured he’d be a great source for humor. And I was partially correct. Greene’s ascension to the S.C. Democratic candidacy for U.S. Senate is funny in the same way a puppy running into a sliding glass door is – it’s initially funny, then you just feel awful about yourself and want to apologize to the puppy for bamboozling him with the miracle of glass.

“I am going to end the recession,” said Greene.

“Is this a joke?” asked Heidi, in all seriousness.

It probably didn’t help that Greene was watching television during the interview. But it’s kind of hard to imagine that made any difference.

We can treat Greene like a regular politician and look into the recent revelations about his military career, his police record or what have you. You can investigate whether he was a Republican plant. It really makes no difference.

You can listen to the interview here or watch the video below of Greene being interviewed by Don Lemon (who also asked Greene if he was on something) on CNN and see my point.

I can’t mock Greene for the same reason as I can’t mock the aforementioned puppy. It would just come off as mean spirited. Greene may or may not be a good man. Greene may or may not be a criminal or have his full mental capacities.

But Greene has no business being the Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate. Not in an exclusive two-party system. But he is, and as far as current political realities go, he won the Democratic Party nomination fair and square. In the end, however, this goes beyond current political affairs and calls our entire political system into question.

There really is only one question that should be asked, and that question should be directed at the South Carolina Democratic Party and South Carolina voters:

    Are you high?

What is it about South Carolina and batshit crazy? Certainly Mr. Greene, has some mental issues.

I think it's more accurate to call him a pawn than a plant (not that you were calling him a plant). A plant presumably knows he's been planted, but this pawn of the RNC probably thinks he's helping the DNC.
