A video sent to media by Boko Haram shows Muslim captives mowed down by gunfire from the radical Islamist group. Boko Haram explains that the slain Muslims were Muslim in name only because they did not adhere to Sharia law.
A telling statement from the group admits that the prophet says that prisoners should be held and not killed, but Boko Haram feels that now is not the proper time to hold prisoners. Boko Haram is playing by its own rules

Geez, they certainly make the Taliban running Afghanistan in the late 90's look like rational princes of Islam.
It's so clear that they are trying to terrorize, if they don't qualify as terrorists, I don't know who does.
The thing is, what's supposed to be the appeal of living in a permanent situation of being ruled by terrorists, constantly being terrorized? Suffer constant terror your whole life worrying about whether you will do something that is haram, and be rewarded in the afterlife? This will bring more converts to their cause? Or are they the only ones that matter to God, the rest of the people on earth merely lumps of meat there to be controlled or destroyed if not controllable?
This is where religion and nihilism meet. All life is misery, death/afterlife all that matters.
