LIKES & DISLIKES; COMEDIANS & POLITICIANS

There are some things I like and some things I dislike; just like everybody else.

Sometimes there are reasons and sometimes reasoning has nothing to do with my

    COMICS

Comedians have to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune with no net—to mix my metaphors.

I rarely hate or detest comedians although I might hate or detest individual gigs or riffs within those gigs.

Patton Oswalt makes me laugh. I usually suffer no shame listening to his stories and laughing; unlike other comedians. He kind of looks innocent and feigns evil in such a manner that he is intriguing.

Patton is certainly no politician but he loves to play with his left leaning audiences.

Again, there is no reason for liking Oswalt in my mind's eye. Ten percent of his material or more might turn me off; but 90% is a pretty good rating.

    I just like him.

Louie CK is one of my favorite comedians but 1/3 (?) of his material is to eschatological for me.

Bodily function riffs do nothing for me. I will turn the channel out of disgust.

Some of his sexual descriptions also turn me off at times; but sometimes I hang on and find myself laughing with some attendant shame.

Louie swears to much; but I am a guy and guys are more used to that kind of stuff.

After all I do not swear as much as Louie but I swear much too much.

Bill Burr is the single funniest guy I have ever witnessed in the media.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zr162OZ2Z0w&feature=related

He is certainly a misogynist but he is up front about it.

He divides reality into thoughts and actions and he just loves to air his naughtiest thoughts.

Evil plays a great role in his gigs. I don't care if he is mentally bashing muffins at some local bizarre or dreaming about driving his automobile into a crowd of strangers.

So guilt and shame usually accompany my reactions to Bill's stories.

Now Chris Rock is just not funny to me.

    I certainly like Chris Rock.

He just does not entertain me that much.

His stand up and his movies are not interesting to me.

But he produces this new show on FX that has introduced me to a really fine comedian.

The show is called: Totally Biased With W. Kamau Bell and the host is just hilarious.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZ_MTNHk2Dw

This man is political and funny and has a great delivery that I really have not witnessed before.

He usually brings on some left wing guest and has no problem making fun of the left wing perspective at times.

    So I like this guy.

Richard Pryor never did that much for me and George Carlin wore on me after his first decade or so.

I certainly would watch each of them from time to time; I just lost interest in their type of humor.

    See?

I do not hate and have never hated Pryor or Carlin.

I usually just did not like (enjoy) their material all that much.

I bring this idea up because politics have little to do with my likes and dislikes as far as comedy; as long as the comedian is not a full fledged repub.

All these performers could be compartmentalized as leftist in their views (except Carlin who following the 1972 election gave up on politics completely and advised his audience to not vote) and I am sure that has something to do with my likes and dislikes.

Dennis Miller enrages me at times and I have no love for the few right wing comedians out there. Of course even when I had no idea what his politics were; I gave up watching SNL altogether back when Dennis hosted the news and stayed away from SNL until 2006? or so.

    Or take Nick DiPaolo

So I know I am biased.

    Well enough of that.

    POLITICIANS

    Onto politics and politicians.

This whole idea of likes and dislikes came to me while I watched (of all people) Tom Coburn on C-SPAN today.

    http://www.c-span.org/Events/Sen-Coburn-Talks-About-2012-Election-amp-the-quotFiscal-Cliffquot/10737433994/

I used to just despise Coburn.

He just appeared to me to be a solid right wing demagogue who was in the pocket of big oil and.....

    blahblahblahblahblah...

But lately this Senator has appeared more reasoned and reasonable in his opinions.

Now do not get me wrong.

He caucuses with Senate Republicans and just about every Senate repub is personally responsible for a terrible Congress.

Judges are not confirmed, filibuster is the rule of the day (at levels unheard of in the entire history of the USA) and the Minority Leader of the Senate has declared for four years (really) that the one purpose of repub Senators is to defeat any initiative from the dems or the Administration AND hope that the nation finds itself in a shitestorm by November 2012. And McConnell refuses compromise at any cost.

Just as an aside here, I despise Inhofe (Coburn's fellow Oklahoman Senator) because I feel that he is personally responsible for changing the entire view of climate change within the repub party.

Don't get me wrong, Inhofe just cracks me up sometimes. He is or could be a great comedian.

I just read at Wiki where he actually stood on the Senate Floor with a picture of his entire family demonstrating that not one of those pictured was a homosexual. Hahahahah

    http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2006/06/06/5669/inhofe-gay-marriage/

I do not hate him as much as say a Steve King, who in my humble opinion is a true true corporate fascist prick.

But I hate him and his views.

    Anyway back to Coburn.

Over this year Tom has been screaming for compromise on economic issues in the Senate.

His man just praised Dick Durbin and John Warner and other dems on C-SPAN.

And Durbin was not bent over holding his ankles.

And not only his praise of hard working dems got to me; Coburn goes on to dispute the repub claim that a bunch of money is already being cut from the Department of Defense!

As Coburn points out, there are no cuts on the table for defense. There are only cuts in the estimated growth of defense.

He also wishes to simply throw out the entire Tax Code and start over so that lobbyists are out of a job!

He then stresses that the tax code (back in the latter 80's) attempted to reward certain capitalist ventures and dissuade other capitalist ventures.

I am beginning to feel that Tom Coburn is one (one mind you) voice of reason. In other words I am beginning to pay closer attention to his views.

As much as I hate to admit it, there must be reasoned debate in this nation as to what kind of nation we need.

Finally I would like to turn to the Rice Girls!

    Condoleezza Rice pisses me off.

I have reasons for this reaction.

I watched her lie on the national stage for 8 frickin years.

Oh Iraq has WMD's and will attack this continent any day.

She would never refute one goddamn word coming out of that obscene mouth of Dick Cheney; ever!

This woman would simply mouth the words given her by Wolfowitz (who is back on the national stage again for chrissakes!) and Bolton and a host of other neocons who made more money for our masters of war than has ever been imagined—let alone witnessed—in the history of Mankind.

    But I never hated her.

I just dislike her very very much.

Did she sell her soul or simply bring as much calm and reason she could under the circumstances?

I think she sold her soul because she mouths the same idiotic sentiments to this day out of office as she did when she held those two offices in the W. Bush Administration.

(As another aside, Colon Powell is a great great man; one of a thousand of the greatest Americans who ever lived. I think he screwed up during the Bush Administration but he had no choice except to resign. And I think he stayed on as Secretary of State just so that somebody could argue contrary views to his President. Oh well...)

Now I come to Susan Rice.

    I like Susan Rice.

I mean I really like Susan Rice.

Before comparing her to the other Rice, go ahead and compare her to John Bolton who always wished and wishes to destroy the United Nations.

Susan Rice has this composure that is to die for.

I just watched her on Meet the Press today.

(I present the ABC interview because youtube aint givin me the MTP interview)

If we are going to lose Hillary; go ahead and appoint Susan Rice as Secretary of State.

I rarely ever see her throw an 'ah' or an 'um' in any of her sentences.

She is always on point, she never even shrugs direct attacks on Obama policies.

She of course is never obscene but she is direct and certain of her Administrations positions.

And I think that Susan Rice has learned a lot in her position at the UN and would make a fine Secretary of State.

So I guess besides noting some of my likes and dislikes I would like to nominate as Secretary of State for the United States of America the Honorable Susan Rice.

    The end.
