    THE SCAPEGOAT

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Scapegoat_(2012_film)

    It is 1947.

Queen Elizabeth will soon be appearing at her coronation following the death of her lisping father.

A TV is being delivered to the manor of this aristocratic family. The first time a contraption like this has ever hit this English Manor.

Our hero meets his Doppelganger in a pub, quite by accident. The next morning he awakens in some hotel room with no idea how in the hell he got there.

This is a 'remake' of an Alec Guinness masterpiece but this new actor really finishes the job.

Our hero ends up in a manor where everyone assumes he is an earl. Like Jesus, he attempts to make sure that this cup shall not pass his lips. But...

Of course he finds that 'he' neglects his wife and fornicates with his brother's wife and is guilty of a number of sins. Hahahahaha

Something biblical about screwing his brother's wife. Hahahah

    The plot is exquisite.

I cannot label what I have viewed 7 times in as many days (I know I can be obsessive at times) as anything other than  existentialist in nature.

Our hero then discovers the child of his doppelganger and is totally disarmed.

The baby girl notes that Daddy does not smell the same. Hahahhaah

As an aside, we may be dealt with many different hands; but we must deal with the those hands in the instant in which they are dealt.

That to me, is the essence of existentialism.

There are, after all, two types of heroes that we find in western literature.

One involves heroes like Perseus. The gods or some individual god provides the hero with some magic instruments like a special sword or an invincible shield or a flying horse or whatever.

The second type of hero is more or less naked and uses whatever protective cover might be available in the improbable environ he might find himself in. He must use whatever tools or materials that are available in this environ in order to prevail.

These type of heroes overlap of course. That is Perseus might find himself without his special weapons or shields. Theseus might come into the picture unarmed but ready, as they say.

    Back to the film.

Our hero has all these magic weapons he needs; that is, everyone assumes he is someone else...although his daughter has her doubts but really really loves her new daddy.

He ends up a true brother to his doppelganger's brother, a father to his double's daughter, a decent brother in law to his sister in law, a son to his double's mother.

There are really fine plot twists to this wonderful film.

Context is so very important to any work of art.

There were all these bombings not so long ago; there was the tragedy of war not so long ago; there were all of these lost civilians not so long ago; there were all of the victims of Satan (yes Buchanan there once was a real live Satan) not so long ago; and yet, within the plot this wonderful woman is in the dumps over some broken plate (you have to view the movie in order to understand this. Hahaha)

Our hero was once a teacher and the son of a miner.

Now he must assume the role of an aristocrat.

He ends up assuming the character of his doppelganger without any qualms or ugly intentions.

    I loved this flick.

    I really did.

I wrote this silliness a couple of weeks ago and forgot about it until I found it in my notebook.

    A remarkable film indeed.

A postscript that has nothing to do with the film.

(I found this in my notes and also forgot about it. hahahah)

We, as a nation kill folks.

That is what we do just as any other nation.

I just read NCD's fine blog about Vietnam.

I think Cheney and his neocon consorts would simply say:

Hey, we cut down the death rate by 90%.as far as our soldiers go. Hell, these folks, if they had stayed home instead of signing up would more likely have died in car accidents!

And besides we were able to stem the tide of communism or Muslim extremists or bad people.

And surely we might morally feel the right to kill cannibals and/or minor rapists or mother rapers or...!

Now we just can send robots into the battle and our warriors are tied to the same type of PC I am in my jammies!

As a matter of fact our new warriors might be in their jammies for all I know!
